What do with ennui: that feeling of listlessness and dissatisfaction arising from a lack of inspiration and excitement.
Good question in the middle of summer and the ongoing pandemic.
1. Take a break. I did, I went fishing for a week. Caught 2 fish.
2. Take an online course. I took a class on teaching adults with the Francis Clarke Institute in New Jersey.
3. Sight-read for a week or two, exploring some new music. Musicnotes.com is a good place to start. First page is free, you can read off a tablet.
4. Read a book on learning the piano. You might enjoy Alan Rusbridger's book "play it again". He has some YouTube videos that support the book.
You've got to learn your instrument. Then, you practice, practice, practice. And then, when you finally get up there on the bandstand, forget all that and just wail.
I'm a professional pianist and music educator in West Toronto Ontario. I'm also a devoted student and teacher of the drums.
